Today, we kick off with approaching storage clutter, the third
most popular topic that was voted by you. We won’t be touching any storage clutter today. This is the day we set a goal for the week, plan for our action and take
any preparation steps needed.
Goal: Set a SMART
Goal for the Week for Storage
As we look at storage clutter, what is your goal? Make sure
it is a SMART goal. This is a challenge so push yourself but also be S.M.A.R.T.
Plan: When are you
going to do your work?
Take a look at your schedule. Where can you carve out 15-30
minutes each day? Yes, only 15-30 minutes is all that will be required each day
in this challenge, not including reading the daily emails or blog information.
Also, look at your personality & lifestyle. Are you a
morning person? Are you an evening person?
Do you have others living with you? How will you work around them?
Plan: Where Will You
Focus?
Is your storage in a closet or a garage or an actual storage
facility or in another area?
Decide where you
will start.
Prepare – Create Storage
Spaces
Storage is a little different than clothes and paperwork so we
will create a few new categories for your storage:
DO NOT Buy Any Storage Systems
Step away from the
door of the Container Store. Don’t go into Ikea!!!!
One of the common pitfalls of organizing is to buy storage
systems. The KEY to organizing is purging what is old and no longer useful to
you. You will find that when you purge you probably won’t need that vacubag or
set of plastic shelves or an actual storage unit or whatever.
(FYI – I LOVE the Container Store & Ikea. I just stay
away from them for my own “safety.”)
Tomorrow – We Take Action
With you goal and plan in place, we will take action on
approaching your storage and start creating routines.
Share!!!!

hopes, fears, etc. You never know what impact your words will have on someone
else.
