Jaxtastic Life Spring Cleaning 30-Day Challenge - April 22, 2015 – Approaching Books – Goal, Plan and Prepare

Today, we kick off with approaching book clutter, the fourth most popular topic that was voted by you. This is also our final topic in this challenge.

We won’t be touching any books today. This is the day we set a goal for the week, plan for our action and take any preparation steps needed.

Goal: Set a SMART Goal for the Week for Books
As we look at book clutter, what is your goal? Make sure it is a SMART goal. This is a challenge so push yourself but also be S.M.A.R.T.

Plan: When are you going to do your work?
Take a look at your schedule. Where can you carve out 15-30 minutes each day? Yes, only 15-30 minutes is all that will be required each day in this challenge, not including reading the daily emails or blog information.
Also, look at your personality & lifestyle. Are you a morning person? Are you an evening person?  Do you have others living with you? How will you work around them?

Plan: Where Will You Focus?
Are you books in one place in your home or office or space? In multiple places?  Decide where you will start.

Prepare – Create Book Spaces
Books are a little different than clothes and paperwork so we will create a different categories for your books:

DO NOT Buy Any Book Shelves!!!

Step away from the door of the Container Store. Don’t go into Ikea!!!!

One of the common pitfalls of organizing is to buy shelves or systems for our stuff. The KEY to organizing is purging what is old and no longer useful to you. You will find that when you purge you probably won’t need those shelves or other book storage unit or whatever.
(FYI – I LOVE the Container Store & Ikea. I just stay away from them for my own “safety.”)

Tomorrow – We Take Action
With your goal and plan in place, we will take action on approaching your books and start creating a structure around them.

Share!!!!
